ISFST2004 Keynote Abstract

Trends of Software Reuse Technologies

From the early days of programming, there have been efforts to increase productivity through software reuse. Various software libraries have been created and shared by programmers. However, as demand for new applications increases, typical ways of using generic software libraries could not give the productivity that developers desire, and ways to gain higher productivity have been explored. Systematic methods for reusing application level components have been developed.

Many paradigms for software reuse have been explored including domain-specific software architecture, known as DSSA, component-based software engineering (CBSE), domain engineering, product line software engineering, and product family engineering. In my talk, we will review the evolution of these reuse paradigms and issues that still need to be resolved.
